Bass/Tuba/Vocals
Bill began playing trombone at age 10, and added the tuba at age 11 and bass at age 13. At age 14, Gene Hackemack dubbed Bill “The Tuba Kidd” and put him to work playing tuba.
Bill has many accomplishments as a tuba and bass player, including being inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame.
Bill has been a member of the Texas All State Band, Texas Junior College All State Band (soloist), Blinn Wind Ensemble (soloist), Moore’s School Wind Ensemble, Moore’s School Symphony, Houston Civic Symphony, Galveston Symphony, the Party Crashers, Harry Czarnek and the Texas Dutchmen, Donnie Wavra Orchestra, Knights of Dixie, The Travelers, the Houston Brass Band, and Billy Mata and the Texas Tradition.
Today, Bill stays busy playing with The Enzian Buam, Doug Boggs and the Cowboy Jazz Band, the Country Knights, the Flag City Opry, the Round Top Brass Band, and fills in with many groups.
Bill plays a Kanstul tuba and is an endorsing artist for NS Design, Samuel Shen Basses, and D’Addario Strings.
Bill has been a member of the Enzian Buam since 2014.
